Young Driver Hits Utility Pole, Knocks out Transformer

On February 16, 2022, just after 9:00 PM a 16 year old female juvenile was driving a 2013 Kia Sorrento south on Bitgood Road in Griswold.

The female stated to State Police that she fell asleep at the wheel while driving and collided with a telephone pole (driver’s side left) which caused power lines and a transformer to come down.

The car she was driving was towed from the scene with disabling damage.  No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

According to Mitch Gross from Eversource, 445 customers lost power due to the crash.  Power was restored by 10:45 PM.
