Police Apprehend Suspect on Foot After Traffic Stop

On 01/26/21 at approximately 9:37am, a Trooper assigned to Troop A was patrolling I-84 in the City of Waterbury when he observed a white 2018 Nissan Altima committing traffic violations. The Trooper initiated a traffic stop and the operator of the Nissan engaged Troopers in a pursuit traveling through the traffic light at the bottom of the Exit 25A ramp.

The suspect then drove back onto the interstate after committing several traffic violations. The operator of the Nissan then began swerving in and out of travel lanes while traveling at a high rate of speed.

For the safety of the public the pursuit was terminated after witnessing the hazardous driving behavior. Through investigative efforts, Troopers were able to determine the location of the vehicle. This information was shared with Meriden Police Department. Meriden patrol units located the suspect vehicle and attempted to engage the suspect. The operator then fled from the Meriden patrol units and eventually, detectives from the the Meriden Street Crimes Unit located the suspect again.

As the Street Crimes Unit approached, the operator fled on foot. The suspect was subsequently apprehended and a stolen firearm was recovered with a high capacity magazine. The suspect was arrested by Meriden Police Department. Further State Police related charges are pending. Please contact Meriden Police Department for any information related to the arrest.
