Plainfield Police Nab Shooting Suspect From Last Week


On December 18, 2021 at approximately 6:
15 a.m. the Plainfield Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding shots being fired in the area of Second Street in Plainfield.

Upon arrival, Officers were able to determine that shots had been fired during a family violence altercation over a child. No injuries were sustained during the altercation, but it was confirmed that the suspect brandished and discharged a firearm in the direction of the residence which was occupied by three adults and three children.

The male suspect, who fled prior to police arrival, had been involved in three separate incidents previously reported during the early morning hours on December 18th regarding damaged property at various locations within the Town of Plainfield.

After a lengthy investigation, which revealed and confirmed that 28 year old Jacob Hughes  had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s residence, therefore violating a Criminal Standing Protective Order and a Protective Order. Hughes brandished and discharged a firearm in the direction of the residence and then left the scene prior to police arrival.

Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Threatening in the Second Degree, two counts of Violation of a Protective Order, two counts of Violation of a Standing Criminal Protective Order, three counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor

Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, and Breach of Peace in the Second Degree.

On December 23, 2021, a Search and Seizure Warrant was obtained through the Danielson Superior Court for Hughes’ cellular device.

On December 24, 2021, at approximately 1:57 P.M., Hughes was located by the Connecticut State Police Troop D in Chaplin, CT, who was taken into custody and transported to the Plainfield Police Department where he was placed under arrest, and charged with the above crimes. Hughes was held on a $500,000 court set bond and is scheduled to appear at the State of Connecticut Superior Court in Danielson on December 27, 2021. Hughes was also arrested on several other outstanding warrants.
