Massachusetts Man Taken Into Custody in Plainfield, Known to be Involved With Multiple Thefts

On May 12, 2022 at about 4:22 a.m., the Plainfield Police Department Dispatch received a telephone call reporting two suspicious individuals walking in the area of Norwich Road and Bennett Street.

Upon arrival an Officer observed a male wearing a ski mask and hooded sweatshirt.  The male, later identified as 37 year old Troy Stone of Worcester Massachusetts, ran from the Officer and a short foot chase took place.  The Officer was able to chase Stone down and a brief struggle ensued prior to Stone being taken into custody.

Upon further investigation it was determined that Stone took part in the burglary of The Pit Stop Package store at #712 Norwich Road.  Several items were recovered at the scene and returned to the owner. Several high value liquor bottles and cash were stolen from the package store.

Stone, who has a history of Burglaries in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, was charged with Burglary in the 1st

Degree, Larceny in the 1st Degree, Interfering with a Police Officer, and Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree.  He was held on a $50,000 bond and appeared in Danielson Superior Court on May 12, 2022.  It was also determined that Stone has an active warrant for his arrest in Douglas Massachusetts for Breaking and Entering among other charges.

The Plainfield Police Department is asking that the residents near the Pit Stop to check their surveillance footage around this timeframe and contact the Special Investigation Unit at the Plainfield Police Department at (860)564-0804.
