Lisbon Man Doesn’t Stop on Police Signal, Keeps Going and Snaps Utility Pole

On Sunday, November 28, 2021, at approximately 4:30 PM, a car that was traveling west on Taylor Hill Rd in Jewett City, struck a telephone utility pole and snapped it.

33 year old Justin Doty of Lisbon ran off the road to the right and struck the utility pole, and the car spun until it was facing the other way. As it spun it hit another vehicle in the rear, a 2007 Ford Ranger owned by Cathy Cote of Jewett City which was stopped on the side of the road on Taylor Hill.

Just previous to Doty snapping the utility pole, about 15 minutes prior, State Police was attempting to pull over Doty for a motor vehicle violation. Troopers chose not to pursue Doty at that point.
Soon after that, State Police were dispatched to the accident on Taylor Hill that involved Doty and found that he had fled the scene. Doty was eventually located and taken into custody.

Doty was charged with Reckless driving, evading responsibility resulting in injury or property damage, Improper use of marker, Operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, failure to maintain lane, disobeying the signal of an officer, interfering with an officer, unsafe movement, and Failure to obey a stop sign. Doty was held on a $15,000 bond where he was unable to post bond. Doty appeared in Norwich Superior Court the next day, 11/29/21, where the bond was dropped and he was released on a promise to appear.

Doty’s next court date for this case is January 7, 2022.
