Lady Wolverines Put up Good Fight, Fall to Panthers

The Griswold Wolverines girls’ basketball team attempted to snap a three game losing streak on Friday night. Plainfield had a 9 win and 4 loss record with 3 wins and 2 losses on the road heading in to the game. The Wolverines scored the first point of the game when Bethany Ladd made a free throw.  Plainfield’s Chloe LaPierre hit a two-point jump shot to get the Panthers on the score board. The first quarter was filled with turnovers, which kept scoring at a minimum.The Wolverines led 4 to 3 after one quarter. Plainfield’s Kayla Morey hit a three-pointer in the second quarter and helped her team gain a 15 to 8 lead going into halftime. Griswold’s defense played a big factor in the second half of the game. They held Madison Kelley to 1 point in the third quarter, and scoreless in the fourth. Griswold’s defense continued to play very well. The Wolverines held the Panthers scoreless for half of the fourth quarter. Hannah Clark helped the Wolverines close the gap to three points with a few minutes remaining in the game. The Wolverines committed numerous fouls in the final quarter. Briana Dion made three out of four of her free throws for the Panthers, and finished the night with 5 points. The Panthers defeated the Wolverines 32 to 24. Plainfield improved their record to 10 wins and 4 losses for the season, while the Wolverines’ record dropped to 3 wins and 11 losses.
