At approximately 11:15 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, a 2004 Jaguar driven by 87 year old Mohammed Elkennawi of Central Village went into the Quinebaug River in the area of Water St in Danielson.

Elkinawwi was traveling northbound on Main St. and rounding a corner, when the vehicle crossed over the right shoulder, jumped a curb and traveled off of the roadway, ultimately going through a chain link fence and plummeting approximately 25 ft. into the Five Mile River.

the car was only partially submerged in the water and the driver was conscious throughout.

Lifestar Helicopter, which landed at St. James Church, did respond and was able to get the driver out of the car after they cut the top of the car off.
The driver of the car was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of suspected injuries
