Drug Taskforce and New London Police Combine To Make Drug Arrest

On January 18, 2022 at approximately 10:45 am, The Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Taskforce along with the Detectives from the New London Police Department Vice and Intelligence Section attempted to take convicted felon 26 year old Kellon McPherson into custody on felony arrest warrants for Failure to Appear First and Second Degree. McPherson, along with his girlfriend 30 year old Jonai Phillips  tried to flee from police in a motor vehicle. State Police deployed Stop Sticks as the two fled from New London Police into neighboring Waterford. With two deflated tires the vehicle eventually came to a stop. Phillips was taken into custody, on-scene, while McPherson attempted to run from the Police. He was taken into custody a short distance from the car, and after he discarded a firearm into the nearby woods. New London K-9 Officer Kondash and his K-9 partner Zeke located the firearm, assisted by Statewide Narcotics Detectives, and Patrol Officers from Waterford and New London Police. McPherson was taken into custody on the outstanding felony warrants and further charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Weapon in a Motor Vehicle and Interfering with Police. His girlfriend, Jonai Phillips, was charged with Engaging in a Pursuit, Reckless Operation of a motor vehicle and Disobeying the Signal of an Officer. Phillips was released on bond pending her arraignment at GA-10 New London while McPherson, due to the seriousness of his crimes, was held on bond pending his arraignment at in New London Superior Court.
