At approximately 12:15am, Troopers from Troop E responded to Trail 1 Road in the Pachaug State Forest, Voluntown, CT, for a report of an injured male with a single gunshot wound to the head. Upon Troopers arrival, EMS was on scene providing emergency care to the injured male. The male sustained a single gunshot wound to the right side of his neck. A witness on scene informed Troopers that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Eastern District Major Crime was contacted and assumed this investigation. The male was later pronounced deceased at 1:37am.
This is not being treated as a homicide and there appears to be no criminal aspect.
